Yet here it all was.

Every feeling he buried in silence had been carefully folded into envelopes instead.

There were letters written during financial struggles. During illnesses. After family arguments. After anniversaries he forgot to celebrate properly. Some were apologies he never handed over. Others were confessions of love too raw for him to speak directly.

And suddenly, the box stopped feeling mysterious.

It became heartbreaking.

But what we really found was evidence of an entire emotional life our father never knew how to express.

Near the bottom of the box was the final envelope.

It was dated only six weeks before he died.

My mother hesitated before opening it.
