Two hours after my ex-husband said “I do,” he walked into my hospital room with his bride still wearing her wedding dress.

Two hours after their wedding ceremony.

He was still wearing his tuxedo.

She was still dressed in a white wedding gown.

And both of them looked terrified.

At first, I thought I was dreaming.

Then I noticed the tears in his eyes.

And I knew something was very wrong.

The Day Everything Changed

I was recovering from emergency surgery.

The previous night had been a blur of pain, doctors, and frightened phone calls.

The procedure had gone well, but complications had kept me in the hospital longer than expected.

My phone remained mostly untouched.

I didn’t know what was happening outside my room.

Including the fact that my ex-husband’s wedding had gone ahead that morning.

Not that it mattered.

At least, that’s what I kept telling myself.

We had divorced three years earlier.

The marriage had ended peacefully.

No betrayal.

No dramatic arguments.

Just two people who gradually became different versions of themselves.

Or so I thought.
