The Decision I Made After Graduation Protected My Future When Everything Else Fell Apart

I had plans.

I had goals.

And I had confidence that the future would unfold exactly as I imagined.

I couldn’t have been more wrong.

What I didn’t know at the time was that one simple decision I made shortly after graduation would become the reason I survived some of the most difficult years of my life.

The Choice That Seemed Unimportant

A few weeks after graduation, I received my first full-time job offer.

The salary wasn’t extraordinary, but it was more money than I had ever earned before.

Like many young professionals, I immediately began thinking about things I wanted to buy.

A newer car.

Better clothes.

A larger apartment.

The lifestyle upgrades seemed endless.

But before spending my first paycheck, I made a decision.

I would save a portion of every dollar I earned.

No exceptions.

At the time, it felt boring and unnecessary.

Friends encouraged me to enjoy my success and live in the moment.

Still, I stuck to my plan.
