A Prank That Went Too Far

My brother and his family came over on a warm Saturday afternoon. Everyone was enjoying themselves while the kids played in the backyard. My twelve-year-old nephew had a reputation for pulling pranks, and most people laughed them off.

As the evening went on, I left my purse on a patio chair while helping prepare dinner.

Moments later, laughter erupted near the pool.

I turned around just in time to see my nephew toss my purse into the water.

My phone, wallet, keys, and several important documents were inside.

No One Took It Seriously

I rushed to pull the purse from the pool, but the damage had already been done. My phone refused to turn on, my credit cards were soaked, and several personal items were ruined.

I expected my brother to discipline his son.

Instead, he shrugged.

“He was just joking,” he said with a smile. “Don’t make such a big deal out of it.”

His response hurt more than the ruined belongings.

Sometimes, refusing to hold children accountable teaches them that their actions have no consequences.
