Without my knowledge.
And apparently without a single person thinking they should ask first.
Coming Home Early
The workshop was scheduled to last seven days.
I was looking forward to a quiet evening.
A hot shower.
And perhaps an uninterrupted night’s sleep.
Cars lined both sides of the street.
People were gathered on the lawn.
Children were running through the flower beds.
The Banner
Then I saw it.
Stretched across my front porch was a massive banner.
“FAMILY MEANS FOREVER.”
Some I knew well.
Others I hadn’t seen in years.
Many were carrying plates of food.
Several appeared to have brought overnight bags.
One uncle was grilling on my patio.
Another relative was setting up a karaoke machine in my living room.
I later learned there were approximately ninety-two family members inside and around my house.
Ninety-two.
The Shocking Explanation
When I finally found my brother, he greeted me as if nothing unusual had happened.
“You’re back early!” he said cheerfully.
Back early?
Apparently, while I was away, he had decided my home would be the perfect location for a major family reunion.
According to him, everyone assumed I wouldn’t mind.
After all, family means forever.
That phrase appeared repeatedly throughout the decorations.
