I sat in the audience clutching an old handkerchief that had belonged to my sister. She should have been there to witness this day.
“Before we conclude today’s celebration, three graduates have requested a few moments to honor someone very special.”
I looked around, confused.
Mine.
The triplets walked back onto the stage together, each carrying a framed photograph.
“Our aunt gave up everything so we could have everything.”
“She never asked for recognition. She only asked that we become good people.”
“Today isn’t just our graduation.”
“It’s hers too.”
Then came the surprise that left me speechless.
A university official stepped forward holding another diploma.
My knees gave out.
