Half of ten victims in Bahamas plane crash identified

The crash occurred on July 10, 2026, in North Andros after a Cessna 402 operated by Flamingo Air departed Lynden Pindling International Airport in Nassau. The aircraft was headed toward San Andros when it crashed in a wooded area. Authorities initially reported that one person had survived, but that passenger later died from their injuries.

Five Victims Were Members of Da Pond Band

Among the victims were five members of the popular Bahamian music group Da Pond Band.

The deaths sent shock waves through the country’s entertainment community. Band representatives described the five musicians as central members of the group and asked supporters to give the band and families time and space to grieve.

The loss was especially painful because the crash happened as The Bahamas was celebrating its 53rd anniversary of independence.

Instead of a day of celebration, families and communities were suddenly faced with devastating news.

Seven Victims Were Later Named

Reports identified seven of the people who died as Quinton Myers, Mateo Winder, Rashad Storr, Giovanni McKenzie, Travis Johnson, Franklyn Cambridge, and Macaro Rolle.

Among the musicians, Travis Johnson was identified as the band’s singer, Giovanni McKenzie as a keyboard player, and Rashad Storr as the group’s guitarist. Franklyn Cambridge was identified as the pilot of the aircraft.

Another victim, popular Bahamian DJ Fresh, whose real name was Melvin Henfield, was also mourned by friends and members of the local entertainment community.
