Bumps on the Eye: Causes, Symptoms, Treatment, and When to See a Doctor

Common Causes of Eye Bumps

One of the most frequent causes is a Stye, a red, painful lump that forms along the edge of the eyelid due to a bacterial infection in an oil gland. It often looks similar to a small pimple and may be tender to the touch.

Another common condition is a Chalazion, which occurs when an oil gland becomes blocked. Unlike a stye, it is usually painless and develops more slowly, forming a firm lump on the eyelid.

Milia are tiny white bumps that can appear around the eyes. They are caused by trapped keratin under the skin and are generally harmless.

In some cases, bumps may be due to allergic reactions, irritation, or less commonly, more serious conditions that require evaluation.
