However, the headline is misleadingly incomplete. Current reporting does not confirm that South Korea has issued an order to launch an attack on North Korea. Instead, the Korean Peninsula is experiencing heightened military tensions following recent North Korean missile launches and disputes surrounding U.S.-South Korean military exercises.

North Korea Has Fired New Missiles

On August 20, South Korea’s military said North Korea launched a barrage of short-range ballistic missiles toward the East Sea.

South Korea’s Joint Chiefs of Staff said it detected the launches from the Pyongyang area and increased surveillance while coordinating with the United States and Japan.

The launches came amid the annual Ulchi Freedom Shield exercises involving U.S. and South Korean forces.

North Korea has repeatedly criticized those exercises, describing them as preparations for aggression.
