Eliza was a 25-year-old model and former lover of professional footballer Bruno Fernandes when she disappeared in 2010. Her disappearance became a major investigation, and although her remains were never recovered, Bruno was convicted in connection with her murder.

Now, renewed attention has focused on Eliza’s mother, Sonia Fátima Moura, after a deeply emotional development brought memories of her daughter rushing back.

Fifteen Years of Waiting

For Sonia, the years following Eliza’s disappearance were filled with uncertainty and grief.

Although the legal case produced convictions, the absence of Eliza’s remains left a painful void for her family. They had answers about what investigators and courts concluded had happened, but they never had the chance to properly say goodbye.

That changed in July 2025, when Brazilian authorities returned some of Eliza’s personal belongings to her mother—15 years after her daughter’s murder.

Among the items were shoes, sunglasses, and a damaged photograph.
