A Mother’s First Mother’s Day Without Her Son Became a Moment She Would Never Forget

Twenty-two-year-old Ethan Matthews had passed away unexpectedly the previous autumn after a tragic car accident that devastated his entire family. Since that day, Linda admitted that life had felt unbearably quiet.

“He was my best friend,” she shared softly. “The house doesn’t feel the same without his laughter.”

As Mother’s Day approached, Linda dreaded the painful reminder of everything she had lost. While friends posted cheerful family photos online and restaurants filled with celebrating families, she planned to spend the day alone at home.

“I honestly wanted to skip the day entirely,” she admitted.

That Sunday morning, Linda avoided her phone and ignored the doorbell several times, assuming neighbors or delivery drivers were dropping off flowers.

But one knock changed everything.

When she finally opened the door, she found a young delivery man holding a bouquet of white lilies — Ethan’s favorite flowers.

Confused, Linda explained there must have been a mistake.

But attached to the bouquet was a handwritten card with her name on it.

Her hands reportedly began shaking as she opened the envelope.

Inside was a message that read:

“Mom, if you’re reading this, it means I’m no longer there to celebrate with you in person. But I never wanted you to spend Mother’s Day feeling alone.”

Linda immediately recognized the handwriting.

It was Ethan’s.

Overcome with emotion, she sat down in tears as she continued reading the letter.
