Ingredients
- 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons sifted all-purpose flour, plus flour for dusting cake pans
- 1/4 tsp salt
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 sticks unsalted butter
- 1 cup water
- 1 tsp soda
- ½ cup buttermilk
- 2 eggs
- 1 tsp vanilla
Frosting:
- 3 cups granulated sugar
- 1 stick butter
- 1 cup heavy cream
- Dash of salt
- 2 teaspoons vanilla

Preheat oven to 350.Butter and flour two 9-inch cake pans.Sift 2 cups plus 2 tablespoons flour and salt into large bowl.Add sugar and whisk until blended.Combine butter and water in a saucepan.Bring to a boil and pour over the flour and sugar.
