The Rolling Process Explained
As the foil becomes extremely thin—often less than 0.02 millimeters—it becomes too delicate to be rolled as a single sheet without tearing. To prevent this, manufacturers stack two layers of foil together and roll them simultaneously.
This is where the difference in appearance begins.
When the two layers of foil pass through the rollers, the sides that come into direct contact with the polished steel rollers are smoothed and polished, giving them a shiny, reflective finish.
Meanwhile, the sides that face each other during rolling do not touch the rollers. Instead, they press against one another, resulting in a more matte or dull texture.
