Could Your Blood Type Be Determining How Fast You Age? What Studies Reveal May Surprise You

What Research Actually Shows

Despite the buzz, current scientific evidence does not support the idea that your blood type directly determines how fast you age.

Instead, research points to a more complex picture. A 2025 study examining blood-related traits and aging found that factors like immune cell levels, red blood cell characteristics, and inflammation markers can influence biological aging—but these are not the same as blood type itself.

In other words, it’s not your blood group label (A, B, AB, O) that matters most—it’s what’s happening inside your blood at a cellular and biochemical level.

Another growing area of research shows that the aging process is strongly tied to how blood-forming stem cells change over time. As we age, the diversity of these cells decreases, which can lead to chronic inflammation and increased disease risk.
