Beloved Individuals Lost
Some of the skating figures who perished are remembered not just for their achievements on the ice but also for their contributions to the sport:
- Evgenia Shishkova and Vadim Naumov, former world champions in pair skating who later became influential coaches in the U.S., were among those killed. (
- Jinna Han, a promising 13-year-old skater admired for her talent and joyful presence on the ice, died along with her mother.
- Coaches such as Alexandr Kirsanov, who had mentored skaters across generations, also died in the collision.
Families lost children, and coaches lost the very athletes they had helped train. The accident left a deep void in the figure skating world.
