“This was a child who deserved love,” one attendee said. “No one should have to fear their family because of who they are.”
Advocacy groups note that family rejection remains one of the most significant risk factors for LGBTQ+ youth facing mental health challenges, homelessness, and violence. While acceptance has grown in many communities, experts warn that deeply rooted prejudice can still lead to tragic outcomes.
“This is an unimaginable loss,” a school counselor said in a statement. “Our priority now is supporting students and staff through this trauma.”
