3. Improves Soil Quality
Eggshells decompose slowly and contribute to the overall health of your garden soil. They can improve aeration and drainage while providing a steady supply of calcium and other trace minerals that plants need to thrive.
4. Compost Booster
Adding eggshells to your compost pile accelerates decomposition and enriches the final compost with calcium. Be sure to crush the shells before adding them to help them break down faster.
- Crushing: Wash eggshells and let them dry. Crush them into small pieces and sprinkle around the base of your plants.
- Grinding: For a faster nutrient release, grind eggshells into a fine powder and mix directly into the soil or compost.
- Seed Starters: Use half eggshells as small biodegradable pots for seedlings. Once the seedlings grow, plant them directly into the soil—shell and all.
