A Sweet History
While you can still find Clodhoppers in stores, making your own version at home is fun, budget-friendly, and endlessly customizable.
Ingredients
Here’s what you’ll need to make homemade Clodhopper Candy:
- 2 cups graham crackers, roughly broken into small pieces
- 1 cup salted peanuts (optional, for extra crunch)
- 1 ½ cups white chocolate chips (or milk chocolate, depending on preference)
- ½ cup peanut butter (smooth or crunchy both work)
- 1 tablespoon butter or coconut oil (optional, for smoother texture)
Instructions
- Prepare the dry mix:
In a large mixing bowl, combine the graham cracker pieces and peanuts. - Melt the chocolate mixture:
In a microwave-safe bowl, combine chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter. Heat in 30-second intervals, stirring after each, until smooth and fully melted. - Coat the clusters:
Pour the melted mixture over the graham crackers and peanuts. Stir until everything is evenly coated. - Form the candy:
Spread the mixture onto a parchment-lined baking sheet. Let it cool until firm — you can speed this up by refrigerating it for 20–30 minutes. - Break and enjoy:
Once hardened, break the candy into bite-sized clusters. Store in an airtight container at room temperature or in the fridge.
Tips & Variations
- Go dark: Try using dark chocolate for a richer, less sweet flavor.
- Add some fun: Mix in mini marshmallows, pretzel pieces, or even crushed potato chips for a unique twist.
- Holiday version: Use red and green sprinkles for Christmas or pastel candy melts for Easter.
- No peanuts? Swap in almonds, cashews, or sunflower seeds for a nut-free option.
