Recipe Directions
- In a small bowl, combine the warm water, sugar, and yeast. Let it sit for about 5-10 minutes, or until foamy.
- In a large mixing bowl, combine the flour and salt. Add the yeast mixture and olive oil, and stir until a dough forms.
- Turn the dough out onto a floured surface and knead for about 5 minutes, or until smooth and elastic.
- Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover with a clean kitchen towel, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
- While the dough is rising, prepare the filling. In a small bowl, mix together the shredded cheese, melted butter, minced garlic, chopped parsley, garlic powder, salt, and pepper.
- Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Once the dough has risen, punch it down and divide it into two equal portions.
- Roll each portion of dough into a rectangle about 1/4 inch thick.
- Spread half of the cheese mixture evenly over each rectangle of dough.
- Starting from one long side, roll the dough into a tight log.
- Use a sharp knife to slice the log in half lengthwise, leaving one end intact.
- Twist the two halves together, then pinch the ends to seal.
- Transfer the twisted bread to the prepared baking sheet.
- Bake for 25-30 minutes, or until golden brown and cooked through.
- Allow the bread to cool slightly before slicing and serving.
